A Musical Mélange: The Hoff-Barthelson Music School Faculty in Concert

A Musical Mélange: The Hoff-Barthelson Music School Faculty in Concert
An evening of vocal jazz and chamber works – both new and familiar – performed by the superb faculty of Hoff-Barthelson

Members of Hoff-Barthelson Music School’s Faculty perform great vocal jazz alongside the vocal joys of Debussy, chamber works for flute trio, a sonata for viola, and a woodwind sextet in “A Musical Mélange,” on Friday, March 9, 2018, at 7:30 pm. The concert, the third of four presentations on the 2017-2018 Faculty Concert Series, takes place in the School’s Behrens Bergman Auditorium, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale.

Audience members will be treated to performances by Elizabeth Condon, oboe; Dorothy Duncan, clarinet; Donna Elaine and Joseph Piscitelli flutes; Michael Finckel, cello; Naomi Graf, viola; Janet Grice, bassoon; Jenny Hayden, soprano; Darlene Kaukoranta, French horn; pianists Hélène Jeanney, Rie Matsumoto, Gerald Robbins and Tomoko Uchino; and Rolf Sturm, jazz guitar.

Included on the program are jazz favorites “I’m Old Fashioned,” “Scat for Cats,” “My One and Only Love,” and the ever popular “Route 66;” Claude Debussy’s masterfully nuanced settings of Paul Verlaine’s poems “Ariettes oubliées;” Carl Maria von Weber’s  “Trio in g minor, Opus 63;” “Sonata No. 1 for Viola and Piano,” by Bohuslav Martinů; and “Summer Shimmers” a sextet for woodwinds and piano by Pulitzer Prize-winning contemporary composer Jennifer Higdon.

Admission to the concert is $20, $15 for seniors (65+) and free of charge for students. Tickets can be reserved by calling 914-723-1169, or e-mailing hb@hbms.org.
