Vinson Cunningham—A Human Voice: Thoughts on the Identity of the Essayist

A talk—more like a series of questions, really—on the identity, voice, and strategies of the essayist. Who is this (often pushy, opinion-peddling) person? And how does she gain the trust and interest of her readers?

Vinson Cunningham is a contributing writer for The New Yorker. His writing on books, art, and culture has appeared in the print and online versions of The New York Times Magazine, The New York Times Book Review, New York Magazine, Mc Sweeney’s, and other outlets. He works as a speechwriter and lives in New York City.
