For immediate release (June 7, 2022, Croton-on-Hudson, NY): Croton Academy of Arts (CAA) will present “Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical Jr.” on Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11, both at 7pm; and on Sunday, June 12 at 3pm at CAA Studio Theater. It is CAA’s first live, musical performance since 2019.
“We feel so fortunate that Croton Academy has been able to survive and now thrive in the past few years,” says CAA Director, Myrlin Valerio. “We are thrilled to be able to present “Matilda Jr.” which our students have been asking to perform for years, and glad to report that the production includes well over 3 dozen people on stage and off – children, teens and adults.”
“The musical is pure Roald Dahl, and like Dahl’s book Matilda, it focuses on dark and complex themes in witty and comic ways that people can relate to – especially children. One of the main themes is how adults can be the bullies.”
“Matilda Jr.” is an ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination. Its protagonist is a girl who dreams of a better life and inspires the children around her to go after it. Rebellion is thus nigh, and audiences soon root for the “revolting children” who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson.
Packed with high-energy dance numbers, catchy songs, and comic and memorable characters, “Matilda Jr.” features talented teens and youngsters, including Chloe Arneson, Annabel Connors, Henry Decker, Jackson Decker, Jimmy DeLeon, Sadie Doebler, Romy Files, Colleen Fitzmaurice, Hartley Hansen, Emma Krenn, Erin Mulliken, Ada O’Donnell, Hunter Olvera, Joe Rader, Avery Ragsly, Ryder Portnoy, Maya Sebesteyn, Luna Sherman, Tallulah Steele, Cassidy Sullivan and Sydney Tulevski.
Natalie Arneson, Director, Janice Paganelli, Choreographer and Jack Redsecker, Music Director.
Tickets are limited, and are general admission: adults, $15; seniors and students, $12. They can be purchased at www.crotonacademy.org/tickets.
CAA Studio Theater is located at 8 Old Post Road South, Croton-on-Hudson, NY. A parking lot is adjacent to the location.
