The intergenerational ensemble of Los Pleneros de la 21 will present a dynamic performance featuring both original and musical arrangements along with classic songs of the Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena traditions. These masterful drummers, singers, and dancers showcase the versatility of the Bomba and Plena folkloric traditions - from its down home roots to its jazzy and urban swing - by incorporating contemporary musical sounds instruments and flavours. This performance will highlight the diversity of the Puerto Rican experience throughout the Diaspora and across generations.
Created in the South Bronx and thriving in El Barrio, Manhattan, Los Pleneros de la 21 is regarded worldwide as one of the most noted and respected Bomba and Plena ensembles of the Diaspora. Since 1983, this intergenerational, Grammy nominated group brings together masterful musicians an luminaries of the Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena musical expressions to create riveting and engaging concerts.
