Upstream Gallery Annual Juried Photography Show 2024

 

Entry Fee: $45.00 for a minimum of 3 pieces; $4.00 additional for each entry thereafter up to a maximum of 8 pieces ($65). All pieces must be for sale. The gallery will retain a commission of 30% on all sales.

What makes a photograph exceptional? As Susan Sontag wrote “The activity of seeing, recorded and aided by cameras, is “photographic seeing.” This is what Edward Weston was doing when he said “I have been photographing our toilet, that glossy enamel receptacle of extraordinary beauty…” This call for photography challenges us to see the extraordinary in the everyday or vice versa.  The theme can be reflected in any lens-based imagery including street photography, still life, landscape, people, B+W or color and constructed photography. Our juror, Dave Shelley, will be looking for creativity in interpretations of the idea. Exhibition will be held at Upstream Gallery, Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, February 1, 2024, to February 25, 2024.

 

Guest Juror: Our guest juror DAVE SHELLEY is a co-founder of Photoville–a New York-based non-profit organization that works to promote a wider understanding and increased access to the art of photography for all. Our guest juror will also select Best of Show and three Honorable Mentions.

 

Eligible Work: Artists from around the U.S. are invited to submit photographs in any technique. All work must be photographically based.

 

Specifications: All work must be suitably framed. Maximum framed size may not exceed 30 x 40 inches. Accepted pieces must be wired for hanging. The gallery reserves the right to reject poorly presented pieces.

 

IMPORTANT DATES

Deadline for Entries: Saturday, Dec. 23rd 2023 by 11:59 pm

All entries must be made via SUBMITTABLE

Artist notification within the week following the application deadline.

 

Friday, Jan. 26, 2024: All shipped work must be received no later than 5:00pm.

Monday, Jan. 29, 2024: Delivery of artwork to gallery by local artists, 10:00am-3:00pm.

Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024: Opening day of exhibition, 12:30pm-5:30pm.

Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024: Opening reception, 2:00pm-5:00pm. 

Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024: Last day of exhibition, 12:30pm-5:30pm.

Monday, Feb. 26, 2024: Local artists pick up work from gallery, 10:00am-3:00pm.
