New Year’s Resolution: Build Brain Tissue Before It’s Too Late; Heisler Playwriting Scholars

To help combat brain tissue deterioration, Axial Theatre in Pleasantville has extended to March 14th, 2014 the deadline for submitting applications for its Heisler Scholarship Playwriting Course. There is no fee to apply for the scholarship which will cover the cost of the six-week playwriting program for two recipients.
The scholarship was named in honor of Robert Heisler, an editor and theatre critic who wrote locally for The Journal News, Daily News, Newsday, and New York Post. He was also an advocate for cultivating live original theatre in Westchester. Heisler passed away in the spring of 2012 at age 60.
Scholarships will be awarded to a pair of recipients, age 18 and over, for two six-week playwriting workshop sessions – a total of 12 classes each — taught by Meyer through HMActing’s playwriting program. Applications are available online at http://www.axialtheatre.org/scholarship.htm.
Writing samples of either a short play or play sample, not exceeding 20 pages, or five pages of fiction or an essay, must accompany the application. Judges will include Meyer and members of the Axial Theatre Company. The deadline for submission is March 14, 2014.
