High school student musicians invited to audition for 2016-2017 season
Auditions for Hoff-Barthelson Music School’s Festival Orchestra for the 2016-2017 season will be held at the School, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale, on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, from 5:30-9:30 pm.
The Festival Orchestra, a full symphony orchestra, is reserved for high school students at the highest level of technical ability and musical artistry. Lauded as one of the finest high school orchestras in the United States by the New York State Council on the Arts, the Festival Orchestra is open, by audition, to students in grades 9-12, regardless of where they study music.
Under the direction of Jun Nakabayashi, the Festival Orchestra presents five concerts each year, of which two are performed with guest artists of international stature. The Orchestra’s annual Winter Concert will take place on Saturday, December 10, 2016, and will feature guest soloist oboist Gerard Reuter performing Bohuslav Martinů’s Oboe Concerto. The program will also include Antonín Dvořák’s In Nature’s Realm, Op. 91 and Carnival Overture, Op. 92 and Bedřich Smetana’s The Moldau.
