DON NICE is one of the seminal figures in American art of the past half century. As a “New Realist,” Nice’s work exploded on the scene during the early 1960s, and was quickly recognized for its innovative combination of gestural techniques–learned from study with the expressionist Oskar Kokoschka in Salzburg and from American popular culture. Phyllis Braff of the NY Times has said, “Among contemporary American Realists, the New York painter Don Nice ranks as one of the most innovative….” Don Nice received his MFA from Yale and has served as Dean of the School of Visual Arts.
