Communications Manager

20 hrs/week, flexible hours

Clay Art Center seeks a Communications Manager to develop, manage, implement and measure communications efforts to increase Clay Art Center’s  brand awareness, attract attendees for its growing program offerings and deepen engagement with key audiences. Position will research market trends, optimize digital marketing platforms, manage media relations, identify advertising initiatives, oversee brand management and design. In coordination with staff and the board, the Communications Manager will set goals and objectives of the annual marketing and communications plan. Clay Art Center seeks an individual who is passionate about the arts and interested in working in a non-profit environment.

Digital Marketing:

  • Manage online communications and engagement for the organization, including developing and executing strategies to build and increase targeted audience size and engagement;

  • Liase with staff to produce email marketing initiatives;
  • Collaborate with development staff to develop and generate digital fundraising initiatives;

Website Management:

  • Liase with staff to produce content for the website, including copy, video and photography;
  • Maintain website on a regular basis to ensure its accuracy

Media Relations:

  • Liase with staff to develop content and manage the production of media kits and press releases;
  • Identify and cultivate relations with media contacts and manage Clay Art Center’s media presence;

Social Media Engagement:

  • Create content for, and manage Clay Art Center’s social media platforms;
  • Develop social media ad campaigns

Advertising and Print Collateral:

  • Maintain and track distributed promotional materials;
  • Create and implement advertising schedule and campaigns

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Monitor google analytics, and social media performance to identify audience engagement and development;
  • Develop and monitor department PR & Marketing budget;
  • Develop and present communications updates to key stakeholders such as the Board, Committees and Staff;
  • Perform any other communications related duties or special projects as directed by Executive Director


  • 2 to 4 years of experience working in a marketing or communications capacity, media relations and/or social media
  • Must have a passion for the arts
  • Superb and compelling written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with broad spectrum of social media
  • Experience with Facebook advertising tools
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact with a wide range of individuals and groups from within the organization and externally
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills
  • Basic Web design, desktop publishing, and graphic design skills a plus
  • Knowledge of digital fundraising and marketing preferred
  • Database management skills preferred
  • Ability to develop and monitor departmental budgets
  • Photography, videography, photo/video editing skills a plus
  • Knowledge of communication standards and practices
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team
