Sculpture for Leonia is a volunteer, non-profit organization dedicated to bringing outdoor art to Leonia, NJ, a small town near the George Washington Bridge.
We have already transformed a park in the center of town into the Erika and David Boyd Sculpture Garden. Other works have been placed throughout town, including in front of Borough Hall, on the Library Lawn, in front of the Middle School, on the Methodist Church great lawn and in the commercial district. We hope to transform the entire town into a display of great outdoor sculpture.
Works are loaned to us for a period of a year or two, or until the artist needs them for some other purpose. We have a small budget to help with transportation and installation, and town insurance covers the pieces of art. We accept loans of sculpture whenever they become available; there is no official starting or stopping point to any particular grouping of works. We have been fortunate to attract very accomplished nationally and internationally known artists.
We work closely with the schools to educate students as much as possible about the subjects of our sculptures, where this is applicable. We also strive to publicize our works as much as possible.
We are planning to sponsor a networking meet and greet for sculptors involved in public art on April 26 from 2-5 PM. This will be a chance for them to commune with others of similar interests and perhaps discuss problems or issues that they have in common.
