Exciting New Opportunity for all Members
MINI SOLOS Exhibit Planned at the Schoolhouse Theater Gallery
May 15-June 26, 2016
Often an artist in one discipline can offer new insight into art of another discipline. The upcoming exhibit will explore this idea while providing an environment for mingling people, ideas, and frames of reference. KMAA members will see the range of impressive work within our community as well as get to know each other.
This exhibit will have a different format than our previous juried shows, displaying the works of 14 artists, each curated by a different KMAA member of a different discipline. “Mini Solos” provides an in-depth look at multiple examples of your work as selected from your entry of 6-10 images.
The exhibition committee will invite artists within the KMAA to serve in the essential role of curating. After reviewing entries using a “blind jury” process (without the artists’ names revealed to the curator), each curator will select a few artists of a specific medium. For example, a sculptor may select oil painters while a mixed media artist may select photographers. Within this framework, each curator will select some or all of the work by an artist based on the images submitted that can be accommodated within the allotted space. Work not submitted will not be considered.
All wall media and sculpture are welcome. Artists are encouraged to submit works which are effective as a “Mini Solo” within an allotted space of approximately 7′ wide by 9′ high. The work will be hung Salon style and there is no specific size limitation; however, the multiple pieces must fit within the above dimensions. There is a 4′ square footprint (2′ x 2′) and 40 lb. weight limit for each sculpture.
