Magic Box Productions Seeks Teaching Artists

Media Arts Education

Magic Box Productions, a non-profit arts education organization that brings media arts programs to New York area schools, is seeking resumes from qualified Teaching Artists and
Teaching Artist Assistants for part-time freelance positions both in school and out-of-school time, beginning in fall 2017. Magic Box is currently working in all 5 boroughs and Westchester
County libraries. We also do extensive work with ELL (English Language Learners) students. We are seeking Teaching Artists with excellent practical and academic experience in the
disciplines of Documentary, Animation, Photography, and Audio Production. We are also seeking less experienced TAs for assistant positions. Competitive pay.

Applicants must have the following qualifications:

  • At least 2- years teaching experience, serving students K-12
  • Media arts instruction experience – Imovie, FCP, Preniere, Garageband and PhotoShop strongly preferred
  • Teaching experience with younger (grades PK-4), ELL and/or special education
    students a plus
  • Non-English language facilities (spoken and/or written) a plus
  • Strong understanding of instructional methods for teaching media arts (for ex. arts
    integration with the Common Core, inquiry-based instruction, Understanding by Design,
    etc.)
  • Familiarity in creating and updating program overviews and individual lesson plans
  • Commitment to collaborative planning
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Strong organizational skills, with a sharp eye for details and good ‘follow-through’
    ability
  • Internet-savvy and familiar with social networking platforms: Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Must be collaborative, punctual, and able to juggle multiple priorities
  • Integrity and good humor are required.

Interviews:
Interviews for invited candidates will be held in August. A mandatory Professional Development workshop will be held on September 14, 2017 in order to prepare for work in the upcoming
academic year.

Yonkers Pottery Studio: Internships / Work Exchange / Residencies – Ceramics, Sculpture and Clay Related

Running a successful ceramics studio is a team effort, so there are always opportunities to get involved at Yonkers Pottery. Participants contribute to the physical life cycle of the studio by dedicating time to clean and perform tasks critical to maintaining a safe and smooth-working environment for everyone’s enjoyment, as well as time to teach, monitor studio hours, help with sales, events, marketing and social media.

Internships – Experience first hand the nitty-gritty of a successful teaching community pottery studio while fulfilling your school’s internship requirements or your own personal goals.

Work Exchange – In exchange for working at the studio, you are compensated at an hourly rate to be used toward firing credits, classes or the use of our facilities, equipment and resources to further your skills and build your body of work and portfolio.

Executive Gallery Associate

The Mahlstedt Gallery is seeking an experienced Executive Gallery Associate for a full-time position. The candidate is responsible for handling the day-to-day operations of the physical gallery and online operations.

Responsibilities include: • Managing artist and artwork databases • Uploading and editing content on gallery websites • Composing artwork descriptions • Outreach and developing a client base • Selling art and controlling inventory • Coordinating shipping • Art handling and packaging • Planning exhibitions • Outreach to media, bloggers and press As the Executive Gallery Associate, you will be expected to have a strong presence and make a positive and significant contribution to the gallery environment as a knowledgeable liaison to the public. Candidate must be computer savvy and have experience working with Excel and Photoshop (MS Access and SQL are a plus). Applicants should possess excellent written skills. A Bachelor of Arts Degree is required. Must have at least 2 years’ experience working for a museum, gallery, or art advisory firm full time. Salary based on experience. Work days are Monday through Friday with flexibility for exhibitions and special occasions.
