NOW THROUGH SAT, MAR. 10: Séance Exhibition

Westchester Community College (WCC)’s Fine Art Gallery in Valhalla presents a series of works by artist Carla Rae Johnson through March 10. The exhibition, titled Séance, references a meeting during which participants attempt to communicate with spirits. The exhibition aptly pairs unlikely creative figures from different points in history and imagines a meeting between them. An Artist Talk will take place on February 28. Times vary.

NOW THROUGH SAT, MAR. 24: Group Exhibition Takes a Look at Portraiture

Pelham Art Center explores the art of portraiture in its latest exhibition, Near to You. The group exhibition, on view through March 24, features the portraits of six artists who share their challenging approaches to the genre. Works on view will ask the viewers to contemplate whether portraits reveal the true identity of its subject or simply capture a fleeting truth. Gallery hours: Tues-Fri: 10am-5pm, Sat: 10am-4pm.

FRI, FEB 16: Italian Bluegrass at Emelin Theatre

This Friday, Emelin Theatre presents Red Wine, an Italian band comprised by mandolinist Martino Coppo, banjoist Silvio Ferretti, bassist Lucas Bellotto and guitarist Marco Ferretti. The group is known for a style that encompasses traditional and contemporary bluegrass, country, gospel and swing. Begins at 8pm.

SUN, FEB. 18: Exhibition Tour, Artist Panel and Poets’ Walk

On Sunday, Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art (HVCCA) presents a tour, panel talk and reading. The event will kick off with a guided tour of the Between I & Thou exhibition with the Center’s Director and Co-Founder Livia Straus (1:15pm). An artist panel discussion will provide insight into artistic practices and the challenges facing artists in the contemporary art arena (2- 3pm). HVCCA’s “Writing the Wall” Poets’ Walk will feature selected writers who will read their poetry in front of the artworks that inspired their writing (3-5pm). The event will end with a celebratory reception from 5 to 6 pm.

WED, FEB. 21: Shop & Sip Third Wednesdays

ArtsWestchester’s new series, Shop & Sip Third Wednesdays, will take place in its gallery. The happy hour pop-up shopping experience invites guests to grab a drink, meet other art lovers and shop unique designer products on display. This month’s event features handmade jewelry, leather accessories, alpaca fur scarves, African artifacts and more. The event also includes tastings by KAS Spirits and pizza from Pizzeria Veloce. Begins at 6pm.
