SAT, DEC. 16: Holiday Carols at Caramoor
This Saturday, one of New York’s preeminent vocal ensembles, TENET, will bring a program of holiday carols to Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts. The vocal quintet will perform original renditions of traditional and contemporary carols. Caramoor’s Rosen House, which will be decorated for the holidays, will open at 4pm for self-guided tours and complimentary refreshments. Performances will begin at 5 and 7:30pm.
SAT, DEC. 16: East Meets West: Celebrating Diversity in Dance
On Saturday, the India Cultural Society of Rockland County will be hosting “East Meets West” at Rockland Community College Auditorium. The inclusive dance showcase will feature eight Indian classical and folk dance forms, along with special appearances by Westchester and NYC-based artists Mariachi Sol Mixteco, Grupo Atl Tlachinolli, Tecuanes De San Gabriel, Bolivian dancer Paulette Zenteno, and Ghanaian Ashanti dancers Gloria Nyame and Richard Dwomoh. SAT, DEC. 16 AND SUN, DEC. 17: The Nutcracker Dream
Ballet des Amériques presents four performances of The Nutcracker Dream this weekend. The family-friendly ballet was choreographed by Artistic Director Carole Alexis, with excerpts restaged after Rudolf Nureyev. It follows Marie, who falls asleep and envisions a grand party, which morphs into The Land of Sweets. The holiday production will feature students of the Ballet des Amériques School and professional dancers of the company. Times vary.
SUN, DEC. 17: Winter Pops With Westchester Philharmonic
Westchester Philharmonic’s annual Winter Pops concert this Sunday will feature Broadway star Laura Michelle Kelly. The vocalist created the role of Mary Poppins on London’s West End and starred in South Pacific, Finding Neverland and more. The program, led by conductor Ted Sperling, will include Broadway and American Songbook hits, holiday fare and classical favorites by Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev. Begins at 3pm at SUNY Purchase Performing Arts Center.
SUN, DEC. 17: A Concert for Peace
Songcatchers, Inc. will ring in the holidays with its 23rd Annual Concert for Peace on Sunday. The organization’s intergenerational concert choir and ensemble will present a program of interfaith carols for Christmas and Hannukah, songs of peace and carols of different cultures, such as Spanish, African and Scandinavian songs. Begins at 4:30pm at the College of New Rochelle Chapel.
WED, DEC. 20: Shop & Sip in ArtsWestchester’s Gallery
On Wednesday, ArtsWestchester invites guests to a “Shop & Sip” event, featuring a happy hour pop-up shopping experience just in time for the holidays. Guests will enjoy a glass of wine while they shop from a collection of art pieces, including jewelry, houseware items, ceramics and more, by local designers. ArtsWestchester’s contemporary art exhibition, Give Us the Vote, will also be on view for guests to explore. Begins at 6pm.
