NOW THROUGH SUN, NOV. 19: Award-Winning Play Nectar
Through November 19, Axial Theatre presents Katie Baldwin Eng’s award-winning play Nectar. This play tells the story of a pregnant woman from the Midwest who while on vacation in Europe, meets a French film star. As it turns out, they were both mistresses to the same legendary writer, who is now in a coma. Times vary at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Pleasantville.
FRI, NOV. 10: Sculptures Depict History of Enslaved Africans in Yonkers
This Friday, Yonkers Riverfront Library will host an opening reception for an exhibit that features life-sized bronze sculptures by artist Vinnie Bagwell. The two sculptures, which are from a series of five, will be included in a forthcoming public rain garden planned for the City of Yonkers. This Enslaved Africans’ Rain Garden, to be set on the banks of the Hudson River in 2019, will honor the legacy of enslaved Africans who once resided at the historic Philipse Manor Hall in Yonkers. Begins at 5pm.
FRI, NOV. 10: Satirical Country Duo in Irvington
Take A Number Productions presents “Reformed Whores,” a New York-based musical-comedy duo at the Irvington Town Hall Theater this Friday. The band, comprised of Marie Cecile Anderson and Katy Frame, will perform a selection of satirical country songs that tackle topics that resonate in today’s current climate. The group has toured the country as opening acts for Weird Al Yankovic and Alice Cooper. Begins at 8pm.
SAT, NOV. 11 & WED, NOV. 15: Upcoming ArtsWestchester Gallery Events
This Saturday, ArtsWestchester presents “Create, Converse and Rock the Vote!” a workshop with artist Pedro Nel Ospina and The League of Women Voters of White Plains (2pm). Participants will create their own mini voting booth or ballot box like the artists in the Give Us the Vote exhibition. The event includes an all-day voter registration with the nonprofit organization Rock the Vote. On Wednesday, November 15, visitors can start their holiday shopping early at a special “Shop and Sip” gallery event (12-8pm). Guests will enjoy a 10% discount at ArtsWestchester’s gallery shop. The event also includes a unique pop-up jewelry shop featuring Galaxy Bijoux jewelry, all-day tours of the exhibit and refreshments at a reception beginning at 6pm.
SAT, NOV. 11: The Kennedys
This Saturday, Walkabout Clearwater Coffeehouse presents The Kennedys, a New York duo formed by Maura and Pete Kennedy. In a career that now spans two decades, this band has traversed a broad musical landscape that surveys power pop, acoustic songwriting and organic rock that is rooted in their early music career in Austin, Texas. Begins at 7:30pm.
