NOW THROUGH SAT, AUG. 18: Summer Breeze: A Summer Showcase
The Summer Breeze Artist Members Show at the Blue Door Art Center (BDAC) is a summer showcase exhibition that features BDAC’s artist members, some of which are experienced and emerging artists. The show, which closes this Saturday, is curated by the Center’s executive director, Luis Perelman, and presents a wide variety of mediums. Gallery Hours: Thurs and Fri: 3-6pm, Sat: 1-5pm.
NOW THROUGH TUES, SEPT. 25: Studio Collective
The Studio Collective, a group of six Westchester-based artists, presents two shows – Our River and Our Library – at the White Plains Public Library. Our River includes works in various disciplines that address the global issues of energy, land and water use, along with the history of the Hudson River’s industrial pollution and clean up. Our Library focuses on the members’ concern about the low funding of public libraries in America. Gallery hours: Mon-Thurs: 10am-9pm, Fri: 10am-6pm, Sat & Sun: 1-5pm.
FRI, AUG. 17: Last “Foodie Fridays” of the Season at Cross County Shopping Center
This Friday, Cross County Shopping Center invites audiences to its last Summer Fest event of the season. This “Foodie Fridays” event features food from local food trucks and live music. Guests will enjoy a DJ performance and a selection of Top 40 pop songs. Food trucks will be located throughout the mall. Begins at 5:30pm.
SAT, AUG. 18: An Evening with Actress Rooney Mara
On Saturday, Bedford Playhouse will present an evening with Bedford native and actress Rooney Mara for a screening of her acclaimed film, Carol. The film will be followed by a discussion and Q&A moderated by writer Patricia Morrisroe. The 2015 drama follows Therese Belivet, an aspiring photographer who develops an intimate relationship with an older woman in 1950s New York. Begins at 7pm.
THURS, AUG. 23: Jazz at Lyndhurst
The Sunset Jazz at Lyndhurst series continues on Thursday with the music of Brian Q. Torff and New Duke. This outdoor event, co-sponsored by Lyndhurst and Jazz Forum Arts, will feature renowned bassist, composer, author and Fairfield University professor Torff, and an acclaimed eight-piece band that performs his updated arrangements of Duke Ellington’s music.
