Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Company Performs at Purchase College

On May 13, Performing Arts Center at Purchase College presents a performance by innovative dance theatre group Bill T. Jones / Arnie Zane Company. The Company’s repertory is widely varied in its subject matter and stylistic movements, often including musically-driven works. The program on May 13 will offer a performance of Lance: Pretty aka The Escape Artist, the story of Jones’ nephew Lance Briggs, who has struggled with drugs and a life of excess. Composer Nick Hallet and baritone Matthew Gamble will accompany the dancers with a mix of lullabies, rhythm and blues and house music. This American dance company, founded in 1983 by Bill T. Jones and his now-deceased partner Arnie Zane, is based out of Harlem but has traveled around the world. Jones is a world-renowned dancer and choreographer, who has been awarded some of the world’s most prestigious awards, including the MacArthur “Genius,” two Tony Awards and the National Medal of Arts.
