ArtsWestchester Celebrates Afro-Caribbean Culture on March 4

On March 4, ArtsWestchester presents Los Pleneros de la 21 (LP21), an intergenerational ensemble that features original compositions along with classical songs of the Afro-Puerto Rican bomba and plena folkloric traditions. These masterful drummers, singers and dancers will highlight the diversity of the Puerto Rican experience throughout the Diaspora and across generations by showcasing the versatility of these traditions. The “Rhythms, Songs and Dances of Puerto Rico” performance will incorporate contemporary sounds and instruments, from the group’s down-home roots to their up-tempo jazzy swing. Youth and teens (12 years and older) are invited to participate in a free workshop earlier that evening. Both events will take place in ArtsWestchester’s gallery in White Plains. This program is made possible with a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts’ Folk Arts program, with support from Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
