NOW THROUGH SAT, JAN. 13: Free Week of Dance in White Plains

Steffi Nossen School of Dance presents a Free Week of Dance Open House, during which families can try any of its dance classes and programs. The School offers a curriculum of core classes in Modern, Ballet, Jazz, Tap and Hip-Hop, as well as classes for those with special needs. It also provides a pre-professional program of Master Classes and offers additional family-friendly options. Times vary.

SUN, JAN. 14: An Evening of Jazz with Wycliffe Gordon

This Sunday, PJS Jazz Society presents an evening of jazz that will feature trombonist, composer and music educator Wycliffe Gordon. Gordon, a former member of the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, has toured the world performing hard-swinging, straight-ahead jazz at legendary venues. He is known for his expert technique and signature sound and was named “Trombonist of the Year” by the Jazz Journalists Association. Begins at 5:15pm at First Presbyterian Church.

MON, JAN. 15: Martin Luther King Jr. Literary Tea

On Monday, American Women of African Heritage will celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. during its Annual Literary Tea at the historic Jay Heritage Center. Guests will meet and listen to three authors – Brenda Ross, Tiffany D. Jackson and Hugh B. Price – each with a powerful narrative about the African American experience. Begins at 2pm.

WED, JAN. 17: Shop & Sip Gallery Event

ArtsWestchester‘s “Shop & Sip” event offers a happy hour pop-up shopping experience during which guests can enjoy a glass of wine, browse ArtsWestchester’s gift shop and explore the work of four pop-up designers, whose handmade items will be on display and for sale: Allyoop Gallery, Gestalte, Robin Kline, Vashti Dance Theater Boutique.  Guests can also view the Give Us The Vote! contemporary art exhibition, which was recently extended. It will now be on view through February 10. Begins at 6pm.

THURS, JAN.18: Adult BYOB Painting at Rye Arts Center

Adults can “Loosen Up and Paint” at Rye Arts Center’s Adult BYOB painting workshop on Thursday. The workshop is designed for all skill levels. Led by instructor Laura Anechiarico, it will start with a simple still-life and progress along the way. Participants will be encouraged to work at their own pace, and in their own style. All supplies are included. Begins at 6pm.
