Debuting commissioned and new work by First Generation and New American artists, “Crossing Borders: Memory and Heritage in a New America” is a provocative contemporary art exhibition exploring memory, identity, and cross-culturalism within New York’s immigrant community. The exhibiting artists represent nine nationalities and each employs their autobiographies as artistic tools. Ranging from site-specific installations to photography to sculpture, the work embodies a universal desire to build a bright future in a new place while remaining rooted in the past and connected to family legacy. The pieces are individual contemplations on experiences that transcend a singular ethnic or cultural group.

Crossing Borders in Performance: A Cross Cultural Concert Series
Saturday, February 21 ~ Saturday, March 28, 2015
All concerts start at 8:00 PM, doors open at 7:30
Enjoy a series of six performances related to the “Crossing Borders” visual art exhibition. These performances are opportunities for cross cultural dialogues between artists, genres and audiences. The series opens before the exhibition with two exceptional performances of music and dance collaboration and Mediterranean jazz. The following two weekends of programs set the stage for a dialogue in sound, word and visual art.
