CELEBRATING ALL THE CULTURE WESTCHESTER HAS TO OFFER SUMMER 2024!

Celebrate music, dance, and food traditions across Westchester County! Produced by ArtsWestchester, in partnership with the City of Mount Vernon, the Westchester & Rockland Juneteenth Coalition, Bethany Arts Community, the LOFT:LGBTQ+ Center, OCA-Asian Pacific American Advocates, the White Plains Puerto Rican Cultural Committee, and the Village of Sleepy Hollow, Westchester Roots offers free musical performances and cultural events throughout the County between June-September. Events include concerts in parks, staged performances on city streets, and outdoor cultural festivals. Westchester Roots programs are community-centered and are developed collaboratively in direct response to the values and aspirations of the communities and artists we serve and support.

Come break bread with us as we kick-off Juneteenth celebrations across Westchester and Rockland Counties! This year’s program will include the staging of an original Juneteenth play, historical reenactments, food presentations, a communal meal prepared by award-winning Chef El-Amin, music and dance performances by regional artists, educations workshops for youth, local vendors and more!

This program is part of the Westchester Roots series, in partnership with ArtsWestchester, Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle, City of New Rochelle, Lincoln Park Conservatory and Westchester County government.

Join us for an Xclusive conversation with the Legendary House of Lanvin, and LGBTQ House Ballroom organization known for its excellence on the runway and its impact in the community. The Legendary House of Lanvin was also a finalist on the first season of HBO MAX’s Legendary. On June 2, the Lanvins will discuss their trend-setting work not only in the Ballroom scene but in the intersecting fields of music, film, health advocacy, housing insecurity and LGBTQ+ youth services. What does it truly mean to be a Lanvin? Come and find out.

What is performance and how does it open up spaces for freedom? Join us for the newest production from Icon Michael, Roberson, which presents an intergenerational history of the Black LGBTQ+ house hallroom community – beyond Madonna’s Vogue, Paris is Burning, Pose and Legendary. This production weaves together Black arts forms of oratory, vogue and performance, and poetry and song, presenting an ode to the Black gay / queer man, his perseverance, his strength, and his resilience in the face of struggle and catastrophe. Featuring Icon Founder Michael Roberson Maison-Margiela, Icon Pony Zion, Legendary Khaos Lanvin, Ka’don Miyake Mugler, Le’Rone Bennett 007, Rev. Ken Alston, Jr., Brad Walrond and Ricky Tucker.

Join us for a ceremonial flag raising, followed by a celebration of Puerto Rican music, dance, forr and art. The day will include live bomba drumming, and dance with Grupo Cimarrones, performances by the Carlos Jimenez Mambo Orchestra, arts and craft vendors, and more. The program will also feature a special procession led by the beloved and colorful vejigante, a folkloric character associated with Puerto Rican carnival.

Celebrate the magic of the full-harvest with an evening of music, dance, craft and food. Guests can participate in hands-on workshops in Chinese calligraphy, lantern-making, mooncake stamping, decorative knotting, origami and more. Also included will be performances by award-winning artists, including the mysterious and colorful Nian Lian “face changing” mask dance of the Sichuan opera, Chinece an Korean instrumental music, a variety of folk and traditional dances, and karaoke!
